View and manage threshold alerts

Threshold alerts can be set. If a threshold is reached, an alert is generated.

Prerequisites

  • See Roles and associated permissions to determine the user roles that can perform this task.
  • For alert (event) descriptions, see the Events and Alerts Guide.
  • Pool utilization thresholds are enabled by default on every storage system.
  • To receive utilization threshold alerts, you must enable alerts on the storage system.
  • To receive alert notifications, you must first configure the alert notifications feature.

About this task

Certain alerts are associated with a numerical value. This value is compared with a number of threshold values, which determine whether the alert is delivered and, if so, with what severity. This procedure explains how to manage the alert threshold feature.

Steps

  1. Select Settings icon to open the Settings panel.
  2. Select Alerts > System Thresholds and Alerts.
  3. Do the following, depending on whether you are creating, editing, or deleting thresholds:
    • Creating:
      • Click Create.
      • Select the storage system on which to create the threshold.
      • Select the Category of threshold to assign. Possible values are:
SRP Effective Used Capacity Threshold event that reflects the allocated capacity (as percentage) within an SRP.
SRP Effective Capacity Resource Usage Threshold event that the SRP effective capacity resource usage has exceeded the threshold (applies to storage system running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079).
SRP Over Provisioned Capacity Threshold event based on the value of the Over Provisioning Threshold (configurable in Modify Storage Resource Pool details). For example, when the Over Provisioning Threshold is set to 200% (default) and the SRP Over Provisioned Capacity alert critical threshold is set to 80% (default), a critical alert is triggered when the provisioned percentage is at 160% (80% of 200%) (applies to storage system running PowerMaxOS 10 (6079)).
SRP Physical Capacity Threshold event that reflects that the SRP physical capacity has exceeded the threshold (applies to storage system runningPowerMaxOS 10 (6079)).
Storage Container Utilization Threshold event that indicates that the storage container utilization usage has exceeded the threshold.
Backend Meta Data Usage Threshold event that indicates that the back-end meta data usage has exceeded the threshold.
System Meta Data Utilization Threshold event that indicates that the system meta data Utilization usage has exceeded the threshold. This category only applies to storage systems running HYPERMAX OS 5977 Q1 2017 SR or later.
Local Replication Utilization Threshold event that indicates that the local replication resource usage has exceeded the threshold. This category only applies to storage systems running HYPERMAX OS 5977 Q1 2016 SR or later. For storage systems running 5978 PowerMaxOS, you can create Threshold Alerts, not only for the SRP as a whole, but specifically for the FBA and CKD capacity areas of the SRP. In practice, if an FBA Threshold Alert Policy is created with a threshold of 80%, an alert is generated when 80% of the FBA capacity is used regardless of the amount of the SRP consists of FBA storage or the amount of CKD storage that is used.
Frontend Meta Data Usage Threshold event that indicates that the front-end meta data usage has exceeded the threshold.
Snapshot SRP Utilization Threshold event that indicates that the snapshot SRP resource usage has exceeded the threshold. This category only applies to storage systems running PowerMaxOS 5978 Q3 2020 or later.
      • Select the pools (Instances to enable) on which to create the threshold.
      • Enable (select) or disable (clear) alerts for the threshold.
      • Specify a threshold value (percentage of utilization) for each severity level: Warning, Critical, and Fatal.
      • Click OK.
    • Modify:
      • Select a threshold and click Modify.
      • Specify a new threshold value (percentage of utilization) for any number of the severity levels: Warning, Critical, and Fatal.
      • Enable (select) or disable (clear) alerts for the threshold.
      • Click OK.
    • Deleting:
      • Hover over a threshold and click Delete icon.
  4. Optional: Click RESTORE DEFAULTS.
  5. Click APPLY.
